Other great galleries you MUST visit if you’re in Paris…

Le Bal gallery is currently featuring Anticorps by Antoine D’Agata until the 14th of April.

“The exhibition at LE BAL testifies to the vastness of Antoine d’Agata’s production, the implications behind it, and the position of a man who instils the extreme experience of his own and others’ existence with a revelatory power. This deliberate, conscious choice to live life on the edge - the ultimate form of resistance - has resulted in images that become one and the same object. The body-object he uses to give a voice to contemporary alienation. The innumerable, the unspeakable, stupor, ecstasy, mutism all betray the relationship between d’Agata’s work and death; the limit he addresses and opposes.”

Another exhibition is by Ron Mueck at the Foundation Cartier Pour l’art Contemporian opening the 16th of April until the 29th of September.

Mueck’s art consists of realistic human sculptures and highlights a resonance of our time. His art has been recognized throughout the world with different events gaining global exposure when he started in a small studio in North London. It is a rare show to see and doesn’t happen often so if you are near this is a top recommendation.

Another well known artist, Keith Haring, is opening his show at the Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. The Political Line will feature Haring’s art that reflects political and society issues in today’s modern times. Sending messages of social justice, individual freedom and change, Haring hopes to move a generation with his art and encourage others to do the same.

Artist Highlight: Karo Akpokiere

This is one our newest series to highlight our ARTSPROJEKT artist and truly capture their passion and celebrate their success.

Karo Akpokiere

www.zazzle.com/seekproject

Karo Akpokiere is an artist/designer born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He has an insatiable appetite for drawing and is deeply interested in how these drawings can be applied to different media as a way to make them accessible and visible.

His work is indicative of his desire to combine different ‘cultural’ elements in other to create art that is universally appealing and reflective of his interests in textile motifs, the graffiti aesthetic, t-shirt graphics, sneakers, advertising, character design and geometry.

Some of Karo Akpokiere’s drawings were exhibited on BRT (bus rapid transit) buses moving from the mainland to the island in Lagos, Nigeria. The BRT Art Project is a public art project that was a part of Goethe-Institut, Nigeria’s 50th year anniversary celebrations and the lagos_live arts festival held in December 2012.

The project was about taking art out of the gallery into the public space and facilitating new connections between artist and audience.

“I am really excited about art occupying the same space advertising occupies in Lagos and I’m glad my work served as an alternative to the daily messages that urge us to see, buy, fly, attend etc.

The drawings were exhibited officially on the buses for a two month period from November 2012 to the end of January 2013.

Check out the pictures below of his art and the video about the project as well.

A Quote to Carry Through the Day by Roberto Saviano

“This is a quote that  Roberto Saviano, author of the book
Gomorra and outstanding figure in the fight against mafia,
wrote down for a mural I dedicated him…” - TVBOY

“I went to visit this mural.
The fact that somewhere over there,
there is another me standing in the streets,
crossed by the sun, the fog the rain and the traffic,
makes me happy.”

New Artist opens a gallery on ARTSPROJEKT

The elegance of Odile’s art is breathtaking. Her use of soft muted colors and Victorian-esc characters creates a deeply romantic atmosphere, which makes it very difficult not to stare at her art for hours.
