Brand News: Foriegn Family was started on a hot summer day in 2005, when two friends Chad and MR44 decided to start their own t-shirt brand.
Their first conversation started out like this:
Chad - “Yo 44, I want to start up this clothing brand called Foreign Family”
MR44 - “Oh word? Why the name Foreign Family?”
Chad - “Well ‘Foreign’ because everyone living on this earth is really a foreigner to their land. I mean, just take a look at America, it’s a beautiful mixing pot of all types of cultures and backgrounds, yet we label ourselves as American. And ‘Family’ because that is the strongest bond we all value in life. I want to see everyone in all parts of the world come up together as a family and make a living, doing what they love to do.”
MR44 - “Word. I’m in”
And just like that, we started to design t-shirts. We are most known for our intricate hand drawn designs, a rarity in this computer generated world. We are on a mission to sell quality t-shirts and lifestyle products for everyone around the world to enjoy. Keep in touch with us, we promise to make it interesting. Foreign Family.
When I asked Mr. 44 about doing an interview he said he wanted to answer the questions through his art. Check out the interview below!
Artsprojekt: What inspires your art?
Foriegn Family (MR 44): Whatup ArtsProjekt!! My art is inspired by… you, me and everthing that surrounds us.
AP: What is the relationship between technique and content in your work? 
MR 44: Between content and techinque? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm It is a freestyle relationship. Sometimes it makes no sense…Sometimes it makes perfect sense… “Go with the flow” is the best way to describe it… Does the make sense?
AP: Describe your first experience of making art and how it affected your life’s journey
MR 44: My first experience with art was like the first time I had sex. At first, you don’t know what you’re doing, but as time goes on, you get better at it.
AP: Describe your most recent experience of making art.
MR 44: An interesting experience I recently had…Hmmmm… My first art piece I sold, I sold for $4… Early this year, I sold a piece for $4000… so that was interesting… But it all went to bills… waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haha!
AP: Take us on a guided tour through a day in your life as an artist
MR 44: My day goes like this: I wake up, get my coffee, drive to work, turn my computer on, chit chat with buddies for like 20min, then I draw for 3 hours- it doesn’t matter what it is, but I make sure I draw… Then for the rest of the day: I clean the office, chill with friends, go home, kiss my lady… sleep Shoutouts to Chad and to everyone that has shown love to Foreign Family.
