Artsprojekt: What inspires your art?
Dro: Usually things going on in my daily life and daily surroundings….I like to work in thoughts and ideas I have and mix it up with traces of the surreal or dreamy. I’ve always been into comics/cartoons etc, so lately I’ve had alot more ideas floating in my head that involve drawn out stories, not just a singular piece. Some other usual suspects include, japan, LA, music, vintage signage, hobos, motorcycle clubs…it’s like a crockpot of crazy going in in there!
AP: What is the relationship between technique and content in your work?
Dro: I don’t usually have a direct relationship, I jump around cause I like to learn different techniques, different areas of the field, all tools in the toolbox. But a lot of the time I like the soft shaded cleanliness of vectors, it reminds me of old cellshaded cartoons, like old disney joints with a new twist.
AP: Describe your first experience of making art and how it affected your life’s journey
Dro: I have been doodling or drawing all my life in some form or manner. I have a ton of school notebooks from elementary on that most of the time are filled with more doodles than notes. However one of my first official pieces was a fully illustrated autobiography, probably when i was like 7 or something…called Paul’s Bodacious journey. That about sums it up.
AP: Describe your most recent experience of making art.
Dro: Ive really diving deep into mixing cartoons and some of the more trippy dreamlike ideas I’ve had floating around. I have this fascination with real old school animation, ghosts, hobos, all that jazz. So giving it a twist with crazy colors, surreal environments, and super clean vectors just seems like an intriguing combo to me.
AP: Take us on a guided tour through a day in your life as an artist
Dro: Wake up bright and early seizing the day all proper like. Consume mass coffee to actually wake up. Put on my wizard robe and hat. *Magic happens. Profit?

AP: Please let us know what you have coming up.
Dro: Lately i’ve been developing an illustration for a line of ipod/iphone/laptop skins for infectious http://www.infectious.com/ which was really fun. The piece is a head trip around the theme infected, It’s a fun mix of psychadelia and cute cartons, something i always found kinda funny to mix. Another recent project Im involved with a few friends are screen printed posters, after working in shirts for so long it was fun to break out of that mold and just do art prints of whatever goes. We started with one limited set http://posterguise.com/ and are working on more as we speak. Other things coming up is a jump into actual motion cartoons and some really exciting projects with an illustration collective im part of FALSEHORSE.
