Crazy 4 Cult 3D

Thursday, July 16 marks the grand opening of G1988’s smash hit art show, Crazy 4 Cult 3D. Each artist chooses a movie or movies from a select list provided by the gallery, and produces whatever their best rendition therein entails. The list of artists is epic, and can be viewed here, with up-to-date happenings here.
My choice was based on Willy Wonka’s hat. I wanted to put it in a position of importance that perhaps wasn’t alluded to in the book or movies. In this land, the hat is revered as some sort of grand figure. It is kept safe and sound in a glass domed house, often found in my work to illustrate that some item or situation is important enough for such precious safe keeping.
There is a lot going on here (shown below), but the gist of it is that the hat is just about to be called upon for its big moment - to be Wonka’s hat, a treasure that is surely quite the finishing touch on a genius plan to transform the new world and its inhabitants. So without further ado: “Waiting for the One,” 18 x 34 inches, acrylic on canvas (with hand-crafted frame by my father / not shown).
