This weekend we caught up with Alex Pardee (Juxtapoz cover #79), Jason Maloney (Juxtapoz #70), Skinner (future feature coming in our June ‘09 issue) and YouTube’s Jeben Berg as they got together to collaborate on a massive mural at the YouTube headquarters just outside San Francisco. The weather was warm, the paint was flowing (which was also all over Skinner’s face!) and we spent the better part of a day hanging out with some of our favorite artists, watching them do what they do best: create artwork.
Alex and Skinner offered their insane monster painting skills to the collab (“Dude, you get your detail down so fast!” Skinner calls to Alex as they simultanously add creepy wrinkles to their respective monsters) while Jason added his signature drunken animals to the mix (“I don’t even like animals all that much; I just think drunken animals are funny!”) and Jeben handled the lettering. The final outcome is a wonderfully cohesive piece that reflects each artist’s unique personality, but allows to a rare kind of visual communication between their own styles.
